Our Velites plates are named after a class of light infantry in the Roman legion that focused on skirmishing and disruption of the enemy formations. True to their name, the Velites are lightweight, thin, and flexible, which allows for great mobility in the field.
The BALCS/SPEAR Soft Armour Panels are based on the proven BALCS (Body Armor Load Carriage System) cut originally developed for U.S. Special Operations Forces, a design that has become an industry benchmark for maximizing ballistic coverage while maintaining mobility and comfort. Today, the BALCS profile remains one of the most widely recognized soft armour configurations for tactical and professional users. Constructed from advanced UHMWPE ballistic fabric, these panels provide lightweight, flexible protection that conforms naturally to the body, reducing fatigue during extended wear. Unlike rigid armour plates, the flexible design enhances comfort without compromising coverage, making it ideal for prolonged operational use. To ensure long-term durability, each ballistic package is fully enclosed within a sealed ripstop ballistic nylon sleeve that protects the core material from moisture, dirt, and environmental contaminants. The panels are multi-hit rated and manufactured to exacting standards for consistent performance in demanding environments. Designed to fit carriers built around the BALCS/SPEAR profile, these panels are compatible with a wide range of tactical plate carriers and armour systems that utilize this industry-standard cut.
